How Should 4.0 Scale Values Be Calculated?

Equal semester weight CGPA = Σ SGPA ÷ Number of Semesters

Use this only when every entered semester contributes equally.

Different semester credits CGPA = Σ (SGPA × Credits) ÷ Σ Credits

Use this when semester credit totals differ or the governing rules require weighting.

Important: Scale conversion and cumulative averaging are different operations. Convert scores to a common scale before averaging and use the receiving institution’s mapping.

4.0 Scale Worked Example

Suppose four eligible semesters have values of 8.0, 7.5, 8.5 and 9.0. If they are equally weighted, the cumulative estimate is:

8.0+7.5+8.5+9.0÷ 4= 8.25
